Description
A hike in Alneskogen at the end of May or in June is a sensual experience with colours, smells, sounds and more. The birdsong with the ringing sound of the green warbler (Phylloscopus sibilatrix), like a silver coin vibrating on a marble slab, is at its most intense and the foliage is light green.

This type of nature with old alder forest is described in a vivid way by the legendary birdwatcher Erik Rosenberg; "-The Green Warbler's music, as simple as it is, creates a peculiar mystical atmosphere inside the green semi-darkness of the grey pillared halls."

Alneskogen is located 3 km from Örnsköldsvik. Today, Alneskogen is a nature reserve, but between 1877 and 1934 there was a sawmill here. Nature has taken back the old industrial site and instead of the sound of the sawmill and all the people who worked here, birds chirping is the dominant feature. There is a dense deciduous forest with good species richness.

Experience small clearings and grazed fields, but also the islands of Norway and Denmark where the timber stacks used to be. Here you will find a beautiful view of Örnsköldsvik and the harbour entrance. On the rocky outcrops in the eastern part of the reserve at Skepparvägen there are also several burial cairns from the Bronze Age.

There is a smaller road into the nature reserve and in the middle of the deciduous forest you will find a barbecue area and toilet that is accessible.
