Härnösand

Härnösand is an excellent point of departure for a sailing holiday in the High Coast. The town is beautifully located with its centre on an island – it has everything you need for a comfortable and interesting visit. Härnösand has been voted Sweden’s best summer town several times.

A great place to start your sailing adventure

Härnösand was founded in 1585 and is built on the mainland and the islands of Härnön, Mellanholmen, Kronholmen and Bockholmen, the latter two have been linked to the mainland now for many, many years. So the best way to experience the city is perhaps from the water – and there are three centrally located guest marinas with a total of 65 berths located at Kanaludden, by the boatsheds in Nattviken and by the pier at Skeppsbron.

Things to do

On warm summer days, Smitingen swimming beach is well worth a visit for both sun lovers and adventurers. Leading off the sheltered and safe swimming beach are hiking trails that will take you to exciting caves, limestone stacks, cobble fields and other interesting geological formations. Another interesting place to visit from Härnösand is Hemsö Fort that was manned by 320 people during the Cold War. The city also has a number of museums and the distillery Hernö Gin, which has won numerous prizes including the World’s Best Gin.

From Barsviken in the south to the famous bridge the High Coast Bridge in the north, there are many beautiful places and natural harbours to discover and visit by boat. Lustholmen is a popular guest marina in a fantastic location. It is located on the same peninsular as Härnösand Golf Club.
